On Unconditional Love

They say love in its purest form is

unconditional……….

Once a friend told me he loves his partner

and a third party involvement ruins

his loving or being loved,

and I ask- isn’t that the condition?

Silence. Breathing. He speaks-

“Shouldn’t my love be enough?

Shouldn’t I be the one on the pedestal?

Worshiped and attended like a goddess,

epitomised for my beauty, loyalty and everything

in between, making me deathless in her mind?

My fondness knows no limit

yet why do I be reduced to decay

for her preference of someone not as insatiable

but probably a distant desire?

Am I to witness my downfall

and be absolutely oblivious

to what shall be an evidence

of my love being nothingness?”
